This summary is based on the Precision Nutrition article “Considering (or currently
taking) weight‐loss drugs? Here’s what you need to know.” The following points
have been condensed and lightly modified for client education.
Full article can be found HERE.
1. What GLP‐1 medications do: They mimic a natural hormone that slows digestion,
increases fullness, and helps reduce cravings. Common examples include Ozempic,
Wegovy, and Mounjaro.
2. Medication is not magic: These drugs work best when paired with healthy
habits—consistent nutrition, strength training, and lifestyle routines.
3. Benefits: Losing even 5–10% of body weight can improve blood sugar, cholesterol,
and blood pressure. Combining medication and healthy habits can lead to greater
results.
4. Redefining a 'healthy weight': Focus on overall health—lean muscle, energy,
mobility, and sustainable habits—rather than chasing a specific number on the scale.
5. Key Strategies for Success:
• Choose whole, minimally processed foods that digest easily (soups, smoothies may
help if digestion feels slow).
• Strength train at least twice a week to preserve muscle while losing fat.
• Eat enough protein—around 0.5–1.0 g per pound of body weight.
• Fill your plate with fruits and vegetables for fiber and nutrients.
• Opt for higher‐fiber, slower‐digesting carbs such as beans, lentils, or whole grains.
• Include healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil to support satiety.
• Seek support—nutrition and mindset coaching help build consistency and lasting
results.
6. What this means for you:
If you're using or considering a GLP‐1 medication, remember that long‐term success
comes from your daily habits—movement, nutrition, sleep, and stress management.
Think of the medication as a tool, not the solution itself. Always consult your
healthcare provider before making medication changes.
